The Challenge

With over 150 live sites across the UK, many in remote locations, Clarus were approached to deliver connectivity solutions to support its UK wide digital strategy across many of its key sites.

The main challenges were:

  • Remote sites with poor and unmanaged mobile network connectivity.
  • Many sites located too far from Openreach exchanges to provide adequate fixed line connectivity.
  • 4G dongles were being widely used, with no external antennas these delivered poor internet connectivity.
  • Working within COVID-19 protocols meant increased network usage due to an increased reliance on video conferencing for team meetings and virtual site visits.
  • MWH wanted a simple ‘menu’ and cost structure to allow site managers to order the connectivity for their site.

“The 4G connectivity and improved mobile signal is key to supporting business operations. the health and safety of the sites’ employees and visitors and the delivery of our digital strategy. This rapid-deployment solution ensures high speeds and connectivity from day one of our operations, without the long lead times and high costs of traditional fibre installations.”

The Solution

On each site, Clarus engineers conduct a detailed survey, including spectrum analysis of all available mobile networks to identify the fastest and most stable mobile operator frequencies.

We then install our industrial grade M2M LTE device which maximises data speeds and connectivity in any location. This works particularly well in remote locations where other devices cannot deliver the required connectivity.

The unit connects to the best possible single network in the area or a combination of two networks offering combined speeds and network resilience.

Our engineers also install structured cabling into each site office and connect WiFi access points, to ensure connectivity reaches everyone who needs it.

We also offer MWH the option of site wide WiFi and mobile signal repeaters where required.

The Results

Maximum possible speeds achieved at each site and location.

Internet speeds outperform fibre speeds on many installs.

Fully networked site offices, allowing employees to access and share plans, CAD drawings and to collaborate with other colleagues across MWH.

Instant communication with Head Office, partners, suppliers and the community.

IP connectivity for site security – CCTV systems, sensors and health and safety equipment.

Some sites benefit from our mobile signal boosting technology, providing full LTE voice and data coverage, supporting operations and health and safety.
