Perth Royal Infirmary
Managed by NHS Tayside, Perth Royal Infirmary is a district hospital in Perth. The Royal Infirmary serves a population of around 182,000 across the City of Perth and the wider Perth and Kinross area.
NHS Tayside is an NHS board which forms one of the fourteen regions of NHS Scotland. It provides healthcare services in Angus, the City of Dundee and Perth and Kinross. NHS Tayside is headquartered at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. It currently has one of the largest hospitals in the world and also one of the largest teaching hospitals in the world within its boundaries (Ninewells Hospital, Dundee).
It has three Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs): Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross.
The Challenge
Certain areas of Perth Royal Infirmary have struggled with poor mobile phone signal for a number of years. A combination of a relatively poor external mobile signal and the materials used in construction have resulted in very poor indoor mobile coverage.
This is a common problem in hospital buildings, due to the design and materials used during construction (concrete, steel, and Low-E glass). This can have a detrimental effect on both staff being able to carry out their daily duties as well as patients not being able to communicate with family, in what is often a highly stressful time.
In line with the “NHS Long Term Plan” in making better use of digital technology, improving connectivity and mobile coverage for staff and patients was a priority.
The Solution
Following a detailed survey and short consultation period the Boost Pro engineers designed a passive DAS to improve the corporate network within a key administrative office area.
Due to the poor external signal strength, a high-gain LPDA antenna was used in order to maximise the performance of the system.
This project leverages our license-exempt Passive DAS Industrial Signal Booster. This product benefits from:
✓ 3G / 4G / LTE Voice and Data
✓ Multi-Carrier Support with Carrier Switching
✓ Indoor / Outdoor NEMA 4 Rated
✓ Network Safe
The Results
A strong and consistent mobile signal provided for all NHS staff, to ensure daily tasks can be completed and critical calls are not missed.
Full installation was completed in just one working day.
The team now benefits from health and safety, productivity and operational advantages of being able to use mobile devices on the move within the hospital buildings.
Our products are license-exempt and fully comply with Ofcom’s UK Interface requirement 2102 (IR2102) (UK) and ComReg S.I.No.283 of 2018 (Ireland).
