The Challenge

For a number of years, the staff office areas of University College Birmingham have suffered from poor mobile phone signal across all four networks. A common problem in campus buildings, this is due to sustainable design and materials used during construction (including concrete, steel, and Low-E glass).

This led to a number of operational challenges, including employee communication and productivity. With little to no mobile coverage, health and safety in the office was also a concern.

The Solution

Following a detailed survey and consultation period, the Boost Pro engineers designed a passive DAS to improve mobile coverage for all four networks in the staff office areas.

High-gain directional antennas were installed in order to maximise the donor signal and ensure optimal performance of the system.

Our solution benefits from:

✓ Multi Network 3G 4G 5G* Voice and Data
✓ Network Safe and Network operator approved
✓ Indoor / Outdoor NEMA 4 Rated
✓ Scalable, all-digital PoE Solution
✓ Setup, Maintenance, and Remote Management

*Hardware is 5G ready for Voice and Data and service will be activated once Ofcom approves 5G frequencies.

The Results

The staff offices now receive full LTE voice and data coverage across all four networks.

Employees can now easily communicate with all stakeholders, including other members of staff, suppliers, partners and students.

The team now benefits from health and safety, productivity, and operational advantages of being able to use mobile devices on the move within the site offices.

Our products are license-exempt and fully comply with Ofcom’s UK Interface requirement 2102 (IR2102) (UK) and ComReg S.I.No.283 of 2018 (Ireland).
