NHS Clatterbridge
Completed in June 2020, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is a new 11 storey specialist care hospital that will help deliver specialist cancer care including immunotherapy and advanced radio therapy to people in Merseyside and Cheshire. The hospital is part of a £162 million investment intended to expand cancer services throughout the Merseyside region.
The Challenge
– Since opening, the mobile signal has been poor throughout the centre, especially on the bottom four floors causing difficulties for both staff and patients.
– Patients were unable to call family and friends, and staff were missing key phone calls.
– Boost Pro were tasked with improving mobile voice and data coverage for all four major networks, throughout these key areas.
Can we help you?
The Solution
– A survey was carried out to create a heat map showcasing the areas within the hospital that suffer from poor signal strength.
– The survey also revealed that despite the city centre location of the building, the modern and sustainable building materials used during construction prevented mobile signal from penetrating the lower parts of the building.
– It also confirmed that there was sufficient external signal that a working solution could be deployed.
– A consultation period with the hospital and Vinci Facilities Management then followed, with Boost Pro designing a system of 8 Network Units and 28 Coverage Units throughout the levels M3, M2, M1 and Level 0.
The Results
– All four major networks improved – O2, EE, Vodafone and Three.
– Since installation the mobile coverage has significantly improved in the four levels targeted, with discussions now ongoing to improve the remaining 7 levels.
– Patients and their visiting friends and families can now use their mobile phones to make calls and access the internet from the comfort of their rooms.
– Doctors, nurses and all other staff members can use their mobile devices to assist them in carrying out their duties.
